My entrepreneurship journey started with my main founder’s idea and our belief that we could change an industry for the better, but our initial idea didn’t work and wasn’t a good product market fit. After we had spent countless hours on the MVP, we were forced to abandon it and I have to admit things were getting tougher as friends and family started to question us.

Both me and my co-founder were a bit worried about how much success we could have but having each other’s support really helped us take our product to the next level and pivot faster than we had thought we could. Another thing that helped us was the fact that we realized how important it is to understand the customer’s perspective first and base the product around that. We couldn’t have done that without fantastic mentorship from some of our current advisors.

I think the two forms of resilience you mentioned above are spot-on. What I would like to add to these is that you also have to be flexible and open to transforming your product per the market needs.

Thanks again for the great article as it truly gives us early stage start-up entrepreneurs a lot of hope and courage to keep pursuing our dreams.

In our case we changed the vision a fair amount based on experience and technology trajectory: another critical quality is being in tune with change and responsive to experience. You absolutely need to learn from your mistakes and identify opportunities based on feedback and observation. We didn’t exactly “pivot” as the two new things we got into were really in line with the core vision, but definitely the nuance of our products and direction are extremely well-connected with commercial/technical reality thanks to intense interaction with our partners and clients. Vision + Interaction with real world response to Vision = viable product/service.

A year after that I’m taking part of my paycheck to redesign the product which is launching later this year. Still not giving up.
